This is a rare opportunity for a hospitality management extraordinaire to join the Leadership Team at Mt Hutt Ski Area. The primary responsibility of this winter seasonal position is the delivery of world-class dining in our multi-outlet, high volume facility to skiers and non-skiers alike.

This is a core role within our Leadership Team, and we seek to appoint an experienced Food and Beverage Manager who has the ability to lead and motivate a large crew to deliver exceptional quality food & beverage and guest service that exceeds our customer expectations.

About the Role

At any given time, we will have up to four outlets operating on the mountain, plus the provision of staff meals. This will require you to be efficient at planning and organising, while developing your team to provide a seamless service to all these areas. You will be adaptable and responsive to the demands of our seasonal business and changing daily environment. In addition, you will have proven success in leading teams and developing effective on-going relationships with staff, guests and suppliers.

  • recruiting, training, leading and motivating a Food & Beverage team 
  • operating within a department budget
  • planning and forecasting of labour requirements to workforce plans
  • planning menus in consultation with our NZSki General Manager of Food & Beverage
  • planning and organising special functions and catering for events
  • conducting stocktakes and ensuring appropriate levels of stock is held
  • overseeing the food & beverage purchasing function
  • maintaining departmental financial transaction records
  • ensuring dining facilities comply with health regulations and are clean, functional and of suitable appearance
  • measure & reduce volume of waste to landfill, recycling facility & compost initiative 
  • working alongside the team to deliver a consistent product and friendly service
  • gathering customer feedback to assess their satisfaction with meals and service and looking for opportunities to improve
  • seasonal position from May to October, with the opportunity to build a career and return year after year.

 About You

  • minimum 5yrs experience in restaurant or café management
  • ability to lead and motivate a focused team to deliver exceptional quality food & beverage product and guest service
  • strong leadership skills and an aptitude for developing these in others
  • experience in managing, training & coaching a large team. Including setting & monitoring performance standards
  • strong computer skills and experience with Point-of-Sale Systems including back office & inventory transactions
  • experience in working with food safety, food control plans and processes
  • adaptability to a changing daily environment
  • ability to develop effective on-going relationships with staff, guests, and suppliers

Skills and Qualifications

The following qualifications would be an advantage:

  • NZ Duty managers certificate
  • Food Safety Qualifications 167 & 168
  • experience with purchasing and inventory systems
  • Event Management Diploma
  • Food & Beverage Diploma
