About the Role

The Safe, Healthy and Empowered Relationships (SHER) pilot program is a 16-week men’s domestic and family violence intervention program based in Logan QLD. It is offered to men from Dari speaking communities and is voluntarily participated by men who are wanting to take accountability for their behaviour. SHER supports men through group education approaches and provides brief case management while they are engaged in the program. The program is centred around the safety and wellbeing of victim-survivors and implements best practice risk and safety planning approaches for victim-survivors, SHER staff and men.

 

The Men's Group Team Leader reports to the Service Delivery Manager 99 Steps. This role leads specialised interventions for men from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds who are committed to addressing their use of domestic and family violence. Key responsibilities include supporting staff to conduct comprehensive assessments, manage risk, and facilitate group sessions with an understanding of intersectional factors of domestic and family violence in diverse communities.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in social sciences or humanities discipline, and/or demonstrated ability in a similar program role
  • Demonstrated experience working with men using domestic and family violence, or other complex needs. Demonstrated knowledge of the impacts of violence on women and children, in particular CALD women and children.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012
  • Highly developed knowledge in risk assessment and motivational interviewing.
  • Emerging knowledge and understanding of the multicultural sector including relevant government policies and programs.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to deal constructively with complex and sometimes conflicting situations.

Other role requirements:

  • Work a minimum of 1 afternoon shift per week from 12:00pm to 8:30pm to co-facilitate group sessions where required.
  • Work outside of normal business hours where required to respond to client and group needs

Desirable Experience

  • Able to speak Dari language
  • Strong understanding of Afghan culture and belief systems
