About Role
SSI is delivering the Asylum Seeker Employment Skills Support (ASESS) Program on behalf of the NSW Government providing employment support services to address the challenges experienced by refugees and asylum seekers in finding long term employment opportunities. ASESS is being delivered across Western Sydney and Southwestern Sydney and regional NSW. As this is delivered across a large NSW area there will be a requirement for some travel.
The ASESS Team Leader is responsible for providing day-to-day leadership for the ASESS program, overseeing a team of Employment Facilitators, ensuring job seekers’ needs and expectations are being met in line with customer experience standards and contractual obligations under ASESS, as well as liaising regularly with key stakeholders, employers, government departments, and managing and maintaining community relationships.
The ASESS Team Leader will lead a team of Employment Facilitators who work directly with refugee and asylum seeker clients to create and provide individualised employment pathway plans and employment support activities, while liaising regularly with other employment areas and SSI divisions to support suitable clients to job vacancies and employment opportunities.
The ASESS Team Leader may be expected to carry a small caseload and assist with post placement support activities to assist with workforce needs as and when required.
Essential Criteria
- Certificate IV in Employment Services, Career Development, Community Services, or other similar qualification, desirable or be willing to work towards.
- The ability to motivate, lead and manage a team to deliver high quality customer service and to deliver on and achieve outcomes.
- Experience interacting with job seekers both in groups and in one-on-one settings.
- Customer centric approach and the ability to work towards customer service standards, KPIs, and targets.
- The ability to monitor, track and forecast the KPI target for the team.
- The ability to show empathy to refugees and asylum seekers.
- Good working knowledge of local, state and national labour markets.
- Proven aptitude for business growth, sales or marketing skills including excellent communication skills, high level negotiation skills, and persuasive ability.
- Strong ethics, accountability, and integrity.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience working in the Employment Services, Community Services or complementary sector/s and an understanding of working with refugees and asylum seekers preferably in employment.
- An understanding of the challenges facing refugees and asylum seekers and refugee employment in Australia, or any lived experience in this area.
