About the Role

The Youth Settlement Worker will be responsible for providing settlement and youth transition support to newly arrived young people, especially Humanitarian Entrants and Refugees, who have arrived in Australia within the last five years (or more depending on circumstances) and ensure contractual obligations under the relevant funding programs are met. 

The Youth Settlement Worker will also conduct in-depth intake assessments, facilitate engagement, referrals and successful settlement and transition outcomes to increase the independence and community connections of newly arrived refugee and migrant young people.

The role will hold a caseload of low to medium-intensity clients, providing information, advice and referrals, as needed, and be involved in developing and delivering innovative youth activities and projects in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Youth, Community and Human Services, Social Work or relevant Discipline
  • Experience in the delivering culturally responsive case work services and innovative activities to young people
  • An understanding of skills and techniques to build clients capacity to achieve positive settlement and transition outcomes in Australia.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the multicultural sector including relevant government policies and programs
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to deal constructively with complex and sometimes conflicting situations
  • Highly developed written and computer skills across a range of applications including client records management systems.

Desirable Experience

  • Minimum 3 years equivalent experience and/or Tertiary qualification in Social Work/ Human Services or relevant discipline
  • Lived experience of forceful displacement and migration
