The Program
Our Migration Support Programs (MSP) provide help and support to refugees, people seeking asylum, immigration detainees, families separated by conflict, war and disaster, and other people who are vulnerable as a result of migration. We do this through a range of services and programs that protect and uphold the health, dignity and wellbeing of vulnerable migrants. Under the umbrella of MSP is Humanitarian Settlement Program (HSP) supporting humanitarian entrants and other eligible visa holders integrate into Australian life. We provide case management support, accommodation, and access to support service including health care medical treatment, interpreters, legal and migration support, counselling and training and education.
The Opportunity
This role offers you the opportunity to gain specific skills related to the Settlement sector and working with clients from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds, as well as obtain the skills required for professional work. Your knowledge of this sector will be increased, allowing you to make informed decisions about your future career pathways. It will also provide a helpful insight into organisational culture, professional socialisation, applied skills and working relationships. We recognise the diversity of competencies students develop as part of the experience with us.
The Impact
On a student placement with Red Cross, you’ll help humanitarian entrants to meet their humanitarian needs in ways that empower and include them become socially and financially independent. Build their confidence and networks through case management and our orientation programs. Additionally, connect them to mainstream health, education and other services they need. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the world’s largest humanitarian network.
Application requirements
Must be currently enrolled in a relevant degree course that contains a mandatory placement component of greater than 400hrs. Relevant degree courses could include (but are not limited to) social work, human services or social welfare, psychology, or behavioural science.
For this role you will be required to undertake a National Police Check, which will be organised through Red Cross.
To submit this application you will need to provide a recent copy of your CV and provide details for two professional references.
The role will also require you to hold or apply for a Working With Children Check or Working With Vulnerable People Check depending on your State/Territory. Red Cross can assist you to apply for this check.
A current AUS Drivers Licence would be desirable.
