This role offers Interns the opportunity to apply specific skills related to the refugee resettlement and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) sectors on meaningful real world scenarios, creating solutions that contribute to the wellbeing of vulnerable Migrants in Transition (MiT).

The intern’s knowledge of this sector will be increased, allowing them to make better informed decisions about their future career choices. It will also provide an opportunity for interns to develop diverse new skills. Set placement dates

  • Availability: 15 – 30 hours/week for the duration of the placement
  • Weekday availability required

The program 

 

This role offers interns the opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge from their fields of study to the refugee resettlement and CaLD sectors. The intern’s knowledge of this sector will be increased, allowing them to make future career choices that foster a more inclusive and caring community. 

 

The opportunity 

 

An internship with the Australian Red Cross will give you exposure to the operations of the world’s largest humanitarian organization. It provides chances of meaningful learning and opportunities to engage in hands-on tasks, and gain relevant skills and experience. 

 

Among other things, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Provide support and advocacy to clients to enable our clients to link into essential services
  • Assist in the development of practice and program policy, procedures, guideline tools, process charts, and protocols as required
  • Contribute to the operational needs of the program in line with cultural and professional boundaries 
  • Participate in team meetings and catch-ups with supervisors as required

The Migration Support team are friendly, accepting, and flexible individuals, who are motivated to support the learning and comfortable settlement of vulnerable migrants. All the areas within the program are supported by the staff team and the Volunteer Engagement Officer. Training and ongoing development opportunities are offered as part of the program

The impact 

 

As part of our Migration Support Programs, Red Cross provides help and support to newly arrived refugees, people seeking asylum, people in immigration detention, and others who are vulnerable as a result of migration. We help based on need and vulnerability, not visa status.

 

This experience will also provide a helpful insight into organisational culture, professional practice, and corporate networking. We take pride in the variety of competencies Interns stand to develop as part of their time with us.

  • For this role you will be required to undertake a National Police Check, which will be organised through Red Cross.
