The program
The Migration Support Programs of Red Cross has been working with refugees, migrants and people seeking asylum for over 25 years. Our work with refugees, migrants and women seeking asylum in Northern Territory is a highlight in our program and one that is close to our heart. Our focus is on connecting these women with the broader Australian community. In line with the above focus, a series of meetings and workshops has been delivered that involved more than 250 women from diverse backgrounds (each a champion of resilience who is seeking to build a purposeful life for herself and her family in the Northern Territory). They have worked collaboratively with others to achieve their goal of financial security and the process has been empowering for many. An increase in self-determination has also led to the ambitious plan of organising a Food Expo. As part of the celebration of cultural unity and diversity some participants will also be sharing performances that are part of their culture and cultural identity. To celebrate cultural diversity with delicious cuisine, the multicultural Food Expo will be bringing together cultural cuisine with over 100 different cultural dishes to enjoy.
The opportunity
Experience networking and hands-on engagement with multicultural communities in the Northern Territory at The Joy of Many Colours: Multicultural Food Expo.
The event will showcase over 100 dishes from more than 25 cultural backgrounds, allowing attendees to explore diverse culinary traditions guided by cultural representatives. In addition to the culinary delights, the expo will feature traditional dances, interactive games, and performances by migrant, First Nations, and broader Australian communities.
The impact
The event provides an opportunity to volunteer who is passionate about women empowerment, capacity building and self-learning. You will get an opportunity to learn about different cultures, meet new people and experience their culture.
