The Program 

 

Australian Red Cross recognises that placements give students the opportunity to gain specific skills to their subject or industry of choice as well as the employability skills required for real-life work. It also increases their knowledge of an industry or sector, allowing them to make better informed decisions about their future career choices. It will also provide a helpful insight into organizational culture, professional socialisation, applied skills and working relationships. We recognise the diversity of competencies students develop as part of the experience with us.

 

The Opportunity 

The Humanitarian Settlement Program (HSP) assists client to build the skills and knowledge they need to become self-reliant and active members of our society. As a student within the HSP you will have to opportunity to assist clients in their settlement journey ranging from issues regarding housing, employment, education, health, finances, transportation family functioning and social support. Delivery of our services includes 1:1 and group activities, clients facing, as well as administrative requirements such as documentation and record keeping. Community engagement and group work comprises much of this work. Aligned with the HSP orientation outcomes, students will assist through office based support tasks or community-based tasks to support the settlement of clients.

As part of the Humanitarian Settlement Program you will contribute to creating a friendly and inclusive environment that will help refugees feel welcome and support them to achieve their settlement goals. Your impact will be tangible and you will see your contribution making a difference to someone’s life. 

 

Application requirements

For this role you will be required to undertake a National Police Check, which will be organised through Red Cross.  

To submit  an application you will be need to provide details for two professional references. 

The role will also require you to hold or apply for a Working With Children Check or Working With Vulnerable People Check depending on your State/Territory.  Red Cross can assist you to apply for this check.
