  • You can help improve lives and create a positive impact in your community
  • It’s an opportunity to enhance your skills and knowledge plus gain new experiences
  • You’ll be helping Red Cross to support vulnerable people across Australia

The program

Telecross Redi supports people in the community who are at risk due to extreme weather events. Trained volunteers provide wellbeing phone calls during declared extreme heatwaves. If a call goes unanswered or if someone is in distress, an emergency procedure is activated to ensure the safety and well-being of the individual.

The opportunity

For this role, you will be able to listen and communicate effectively with clients in a caring and courteous way regarding their health, well-being and social connection. You will use a script provided by the Red Cross to ascertain client well-being.

You will be comfortable using computers and able to quickly learn the web-based call system. You will maintain accurate records of all calls according to program protocol.

We welcome volunteers who speak a second language and who have customer service experience, but this is not necessary.

Assistance with obtaining and maintaining computers and your internet connection is unfortunately not possible.

The impact

As a Telecross Redi volunteer caller you will help people to feel connected by listening and providing a friendly voice and play a key role in making sure at-risk community members are supported through extreme weather events.

Application requirements

For this role you will be required to undertake a National Police Check, which will be organised by Red Cross.

The role will also require you to hold or apply for a Working With Children Check. Red Cross can assist you to apply for this check.
