The program 

 

The Humanitarian Settlement Program (HSP) offers vital support to refugees and humanitarian entrants settling in Australia, including one-on-one casework, basic household goods, orientation and housing support.

 

It also includes practical support like helping our client’s link with Centrelink, Medicare, schools and other local services.

 

The opportunity 

As a Housing Support Volunteer you will play a key role by assisting clients with practical accommodation needs such as helping to set up their new home, supporting clients to secure long term accommodation, providing basic home inductions, and supporting clients with tips on how to maintain their leases. 

HSP volunteers are friendly, accepting, and flexible individuals, who are motivated to support the learning and comfortable settlement of newly arrived refugees. All the areas within the program are supported by the Red Cross caseworkers and Volunteer Engagement Officer. Training and ongoing development opportunities are offered as part of the program.

Red Cross volunteers are a vital connection between refugees and their new communities. As part of the Humanitarian Settlement Program, you will contribute to creating a friendly and inclusive environment that will help refugees feel welcome.

Application requirements

  • For this role you will be required to undertake a National Police Check, organised through Red Cross
  • To submit this application you will need to upload a recent copy of your CV and/or provide details for two professional references. 
  • The role will also require you to hold or apply for a Working With Children Check or Working With Vulnerable People Check depending on your State/Territory.  Red Cross can assist you to apply for this check.
