The program

The Birth Family Advocacy Support Service supports birth families of children and young people involved with Child and Youth Protection Services (CYPS) by providing information and capability development as they navigate the Out of out-of-home care and child protection systems.

The opportunity

Volunteers will be part of a team delivering interactive training for parents and families in preparation for court appearances. Volunteers will be trained to present theory components of the training as well as presenting court re-enactments and providing feedback to assist with skill development of participants.

Volunteers will support and engage with the ACT based team to enable empowerment and support of Birth Families when interacting with CYPS. Birth family support contributes to preventing children from entering the care system and reunification in the best interests of the child/young person. This is an incredible opportunity and would suit individuals with an interest in community/social services, court systems, and or family services.

The impact

Through facilitation of training with parents, volunteers are empowering parents to engage with legal systems in an informed manner and increasing understanding of court processes. Volunteers are provided training prior to commencement, and receive regular support though team interaction and supervision, as well as having access to the Employee Assistant Program.
