About the role
Australian Red Cross Young Parents Program (YPP) takes a strengths-based early intervention approach, building the capacity of young parents to live independently in appropriate housing, develop parenting and life skills to ensure best outcomes for their children.
The Support Worker is responsible for supporting young parents aged 13-18 years, and their children, living in the Residential Stage of young parents’ program (YPP) to work towards their case plan goals.
Supporting young parents with complex needs and behaviours, to develop independent parenting and living skills, through the provision of integrated, individualized case management, behaviour support and direct parenting support to ensure best possible outcomes for children.
The role requires shift work and practical daily and emotional support, to all families in the residence guided by case managers.
What you will bring
- Two years’ experience in Social Work, Community Development, Early Childhood, Welfare, Health or related discipline
- Professional experience in the community sector including direct client work addressing complex needs.
- Demonstrated understanding of child protection and child development needs, including best practice when working with vulnerable children, adolescents, and families
- Demonstrated knowledge of the complex needs of the vulnerable young people and children, including barriers to learning and development
- Commitment to culturally competent practice, ongoing learning and direct experience working effectively with Aboriginal and Torre Strait Islander and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse families and communities.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a residential setting to manage complex and sensitive client issues and experience working with and managing sensitive and confidential material.
- Understanding of case management, strengths based and client centred practice and best practice interventions to promote meaningful change for young people and their families.
- Ability to work flexible hours including sleepover shifts.

This role is covered by the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award - Level 3. Hourly rate $37.36 + casual loading + superannuation + access to salary packaging.
