How this role supports the work we do

The Senior Manager - Social, Media & External Engagement plays a critical role in ensuring that the brand of Australian Red Cross is highly recognised and respected in the Australian community. Reporting to the Director - Marketing & Communication this role requires substantial capabilities in designing and implementing market leading social & earned media strategies. This highly visible role leads and inspires a team of social & earned media experts, guides peers in delivering earned media/social campaigns for their accounts and brings together the organisation’s key communicators to drive positive brand engagement.  

What you will do day to day

  • Lead a team of social & traditional media advisers & a network of key communicators.
  • Monitor the news cycle & social media channels to identify opportunities and risks and develop ways to respond. 
  • Establish scalable operations and processes, to allow ARC to scale and distribute its social & media guidelines & strategy nationally.
  • Identify and pitch powerful, human-centred stories to news outlets, in line with Australian Red Cross’ strategic priorities. Feed story leads back to the Internal Communications Team.
  • Brief and prepare senior leaders, and other internal/external stakeholders, with regards to reputationally significant issues and opportunities.
  • Participate in cross-directorate teams, including disaster response, campaign development and field content teams, as required.
  • Create, forecast, and maintain accurate project budgets and schedules. Adeptly manage tight resources to achieve the most within parameters. This includes having responsibility for managing the PR Agency activities and retainer budget.

What you will bring

  • Strong leadership and team member development experience.
  • Substantial knowledge, understanding and passion for media communications and proven media contacts.
  • Proven high level experience in developing relationships with stakeholders and consulting on best practice social, media and external engagement communications.
  • Strategic thinker who can execute programs against timelines and meet commitments.
  • Strong influencing skills and an ability to build rapport with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Passionate about exploring and implementing innovative ways of reaching audiences.
