About the role
The Community Based Health and First Aid (CBHFA) is based on community development principles and trains volunteers who identify and respond to health and wellbeing issues of concern to the local community. Globally CBHFA operates in prisons across 19 countries. Townsville Women’s Correctional Centre has been operational as a CBHFA site since 2019. An independent evaluation of the program found a cleaner, safer prison, decreased self-harm and improved hope for the future among participants. The program is based on community development principles and trains prisoners as volunteers who use their lived experience to identify and lead projects to improve health and wellbeing issues of priority concern to prisoners.
The Officer – Community Programs is involved in the day-to-day tasks associated with the end-to-end delivery of CBHFA activities and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Coordinating and delivering operational and administrative aspects of the CBHFA program
- To recruit, support, and trains volunteers, staff & stakeholders
- Effectively collecting data, monitoring and evaluating relevant activities
- Maintaining program plans and associated documentation and resources
- Identifying opportunities to streamline and optimise processes and systems to improve efficiencies and reduce risk
- Developing and maintain strong and effective relationships with diverse volunteers, participants, stakeholders, and service providers

- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver outputs within specified time frames
- Experience working with volunteers / community members
- Ability to coach and develop individuals and teams
- Ability to work under general direction from senior employees and with people from diverse backgrounds and create a collaborative working environment
- Ability to set priorities, plan and organise own work and that other staff and/or volunteers as required
- Good interpersonal skills, presentation skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Further information
This role is covered by the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award – Level 4. Hourly rate of $43.09 + Casual loading + superannuation + salary packaging.
