About the role
The Specialist, Evacuation Centre Management and Sheltering is responsible for coordinating evacuation centre management and sheltering activities across the organisation. Develop and maintain evacuation and sheltering best practice, whilst ensuring currency and relevance of Red Cross evacuation and sheltering tools, resources, and training.
Focus on establishing the Australian Red Cross as the sector subject matter expert, building sector-wide capability, and promoting best practices in evacuation centre management and sheltering. Play a critical role in ensuring organised and efficient disaster response, maintaining readiness, and enhancing national capabilities in shelter management.
What you will bring
- Demonstrated sound technical knowledge and expertise of evacuation centre operations, including shelter management and coordination of support services.
- Demonstrated experience in research and development of practice, guides, tools, and resources
- Experience in the development and delivery of training and exercises
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams in high-pressure environments, with a focus on collaboration, problem-solving, and decision-making.
- High level of knowledge of relevant regulations, standards, and best practices in emergency management and public safety.
- Ability to work under general direction from senior employees and work with and lead teams and people from diverse backgrounds and create a collaborative working environment
- Sound analytical skills and demonstrated ability to assess, evaluate and solve problems and exercise initiative and judgment where practices and procedures are not clearly defined
